week 17/2026 : 20April Monday to 26April sunday
What do you think is the biggest craze of a boy mom? Dressing them up like a girl, of course, and keeping the pictures for when they grow up. I did it too. I dressed Dhruva in a blue frock, tied a tiny ponytail, added a bindi, and took pictures. Monday was our little photoshoot day.
Oh, he looked so, so cute.
By Friday, his long hair was gone. We had his choula or choodakarma. There was a homa, and nearly 100 relatives attended. After the haircut, Dhruva somehow looked even more girly. His features are just like mine, round face, broad forehead, thick eyebrows, and long eyelashes. He did not cry at all over losing his hair.
After
Monday was Akshaya Tritiya. Sujay had rented a small office in town, so the three of us went there and did a simple pooja, a quiet ceremonial opening. It felt like good vibes all around.
On Tuesday afternoon, I attended a small gathering about the Bedti River linking project, which many of us in Uttara Kannada are opposing. There was a technical session explaining why the project is illogical, based on a published paper. It was quite insightful. We also watched a teaser of a documentary on appemidi.
Later on Tuesday, I went to Swarnavalli Matha. Our Swamiji inaugurated the first round, held online, of the state level Krishi Quiz for high school students. I felt really happy to be part of it.
Wednesday turned out to be the brightest day of the year. Our Phasalu has been selected for the Nagaratna Memorial Grant 2026. It is finally time to execute everything I have been planning. No more excuses about lack of funds.
I also spent some time in the polyhouse at our coffee nursery. We even made some seasonal jackfruit chips.
Dhruva suddenly fell ill on Saturday, with loose motions and stomach pain. I suspect it is from him eating soil while playing, and also his habit of drinking tap water, and even soapy water during bath time. We went to the emergency on Sunday. The doctor said it is likely due to the heat waves and that he should recover soon.
