Week 41/2025 Monday 6th Oct to Sunday 12th Oct

Do you read my weekly notes regularly? I know some of you do. Then you might have noticed that I usually write only about happy things. Does that mean I’m always happy? That sadness doesn’t visit me? Of course not. There are days when I feel low, frustrated, and disappointed. The beginning of this week was one such phase. The only reason I don’t note those moments is because I don’t want to recall them later. I had a fight at home with family—like in every household, reason is irrelevant (in fact I see it very silly now when I look back). Thankfully, I got over it soon, all because of Sujay <3 (that’s being a partner).

What do you do when you’re sad? You cry. You yell at everything. You get irritated for no reason. You share it with that one go-to person. Or you keep it inside until it bursts out someday. Somehow, we all make sure it eventually gets out of us. When I’m sad, I do all of these. Interestingly, I also do double the work I normally do. I work restlessly; I overwork just to forget what happened why it happened.

Green is refreshing as always

Sadness aside, festivals have their own magic. This full moon was special as we celebrated Bhoomi Hunnime, an ode to Mother Earth for nurturing our crops, the paddy, the areca, and all others. I personally love this festival, for its beautiful meaning, thanking Mother Earth for all that she gives us. Such a lovely tradition.

Our Bhoomi Hunnime

As the week began on a sad note, I had decided not to attend a gathering planned for the weekend (that’s how strong the aftereffects were!). If I had skipped it, I would’ve made a huge mistake—missing the alumni meet of our undergraduate college, College of Horticulture, Sirsi, after 15 years! Since both Sujay and I are from the same college, we have a big family of friends—classmates, juniors, seniors, teachers, and non-teaching staff. Meeting them all after so long was such a moment to cherish. The event spanned two days, from morning till late night. Though I could attend only in bits and pieces because I had to rush back home to Dhruva, even that much was truly relieving. The event was named ‘Smriti Parva’, (Smriti=memory, Parva=A duration of time), it was really took our memory down the lane. As always, I didn’t take any pictures!

Just next the day of the inauguration, a group photo was taken. I missed it. And here I am posing with Sulochana KH, one my dearest friends who also missed the day.

This is Vinay N.D. Sir (there’s a tradition in professional degrees to call seniors “Sir” instead of “Anna” — IYKYK). He is now an Agricultural Research Scientist, a scholar from the first batch, and a PhD from IARI, one of India’s most prestigious agricultural universities. He has always been a role model to all the juniors who came after. He wanted to take a picture with me in front of the Roll of Honour—the list of gold medalists from our college. Why? Because I was the only one who had broken his CGPA record of 9.17. You can see mine is 9.23, with 17 gold medals. Those days!!!

What else I did this week; Some writing, for the column. Watched ‘Su from So’ on Jio hotstar, a comedy-drama movie that’s been trending these days. I ended up not liking it much, though the message was good. The only thing it really had was the Coastal Karnataka accent and that was the humour. Coastal Kannada has always been equated with humour — and that’s been the trend for a long time. I don’t like it. I also watched ‘Sweet Karam Coffee’ on prime, this was also a comedy drama series. A mother-in-law, her daughter-in-law and granddaughter set out on a fun filled road trip which also turns out be a lot of real-life realisations and lessons. The series was light hearted and warm.

Next week I am at my parents, to have fun! See you.
