Week 36/2025: 1st Sept to 7th Sept 2025

I was bored this week. So, I resorted to shopping online! (that’s very dangerous) ‘First Cry’ is our first shop. I ordered a twinning night suit for Dhruva and Skanda. That was long pending in the cart. I ordered few imitation jewelleries for me from ‘Adore by Priyanka’. I like this brand. Very affordable, minimalistic trendy designs. I ordered a customised gift for Skanda’s birth day. Will tell you what’s that later. Ordered a short kurta on Myntra. Few books on Sapna. Of course this was an unnecessary spending. I let it happen with all the conscious. I was so bored this week that I cut my hair too!!!

I liked this bangle from Adore. It got delivered within a week.

I was bored and decided to change my WhatsApp display picture. Updated with Dhruva in it. It is a very cute picture of us. Dhruva looks toooo adorable. I don’t change DPs often. So, people notice when I change. Many unaware of this new addition to family were happy and congratulated. Sujay is obsessive about not putting Dhruva’s picture on social media. He believes too much in ‘Nazar’ and evil eyes. And one more thing. We had a deal after marriage that our WhatsApp DP should always have both of us together in the frame. No such restrictions on Insta and FB (because at those days I wasn’t using these). I feel very funny on such dealings now.

New WhatsApp DP

I was bored. So asked ChatGPT to recommend a good sci-fi short story. GPT recommended me to read Andy Weir’s ‘THE EGG’ (Andy Weir is a sci-fi writer whose book ‘The Martian’ is made into a blockbuster movie). Story is about a person who dies and wakes up in a void where he finds God (Or someone similar) and discovers the purpose of life. Though not a new concept to Hindus like me, no doubt this thought would have sparked an interest among westerners. After reading the story I thought why not translate it to Kannada. The story is open to public on his website, also is free of restrictions to translate. You know that last time I aced the translation work, so I wanted to check my hand on this. I did and shared with friends with similar interest. They liked and appreciated my efforts. I also shared it to my favourite author Dr.K.N.Ganeshaiah, he called back to applaud and encouraged me to take up bigger books, translate, and find publishers. That means a lot! I don’t have the skill of writing a story, why not translations? Worth planning. Let’s see. Till then here is the link for the translated story.

I am happy to see that I have got readers, to my blog, and all my magazine articles. One of my seniors from the college sent me this picture, of him reading my article in GKVK’s library. He captioned “Same place, different times; once learning as a student, now contributing to the literary wealth to the same place. A full circle event, it feels so inspiring”

I was bored. and went to my parents’ house! So lucky to have my parents close by, just half an hour away by car. This time I was stubborn to get my parents to pose for photos. I wanted to click picture of my ajji, amma, me and Dhruva, 4 generations in a frame. We returned home on the same day, my ajja and Samartha joined us. He is in his teens, and I find his dressing sense and his interests very weird (Also I am a little old school types). He was wearing jeans, that was tight at the thighs and wide legged at the bottom, shirt had green mosaic broad prints. As soon as we were in the car he turned on the music, very loud, Kannada items, DJ versions. He didn’t hesitate ask money from my ajja to eat pastries. (At his age, I would dare not to ask money, that too from ajja, that too eat outside food). All the way he was telling about public Ganesha idols, their ‘Dhum Dham’ visarjan, DJ big speakers and people madly dancing! Ok, I just listened.

ajji amma and us.

You suddenly remember a song, keep it humming all day, the next day, and the whole week. Does this happen to you? Always with me, especially when I am bored. It was ‘Malare’ from ‘Premam’ that I went on humming for days. Such a beautiful song sung by Vijay Yesudas in the most melodious way possible, starring Sai Pallavi and Nivin Pauly. I like watching Malayalam movies, that started way back in college with Bangalore days, Ustad Hotel, Charlie, Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, OK Kanmani and all the other similar feel-good movies. Stories that run around struggles and juggles of everyday life, natural characters, no exhaggeration, no stunts, no items, no glamour, literature inspired stories, Kerala’s landscapes, keeping culture and tradition alive, subtle background music, I love their story narration and cinema style. The Great Indian Kitchen, Trance, Kumbalangi Nights, Hridayam, Drishyam, the industry has not disappointed the audience even today. I was so attracted by bearded heroes from Malayalam movies and I ended up marrying Sujay (ha ha!)

A still from Premam

I was so bored, I started watching web series. Of course, Dhruva won’t let me do during day, I secretly watched it while breast feeding, and in the nights after he slept. It was Wednesday’s Second season streaming on Netflix. The TV series is about Wednesday Addams, a girl with psychic abilities, who investigates twisted mysteries while making new friends and enemies at her school Nevermore Academy. I like the characterization of roles here. I completed all 8 episodes of one hour each, eragerly waiting for the next season. After Wednesday I am watching Prime original ‘Bandish Bandits’ season 2. Story about two singers, one is classical another modern, who set out on a musical journey of self-discovery.

A still from Wednesday (That hand is 'thing', which has a personality of its own, my most favorite character)

This weekend Sunday was the lunar eclipse. I was enthusiastic to see, But I was down with my monthly periods. I was ok till 10 pm, watched the waxing, but missed waning the blood red phase. Such a loss. This was the first menstruation cycle after delivery. I feel this One and half year after conceiving was the golden era with no periods. Bleeding is ok, but cramps, Why god why!. Why only women. Btw after experiencing labour pain these cramps are nothing!

I tell you the mythological story behind. Long ago, Indra, killed a demon named Vritra. But Vritra was also a Brahmin, and killing a Brahmin was considered the worst sin. Indra was terrified, because the sin was too heavy for him to carry. So the gods decided to share the sin with others!. The Earth took a part, which is why she feels pain when people dig or plough her, but she was blessed with the gift of growing crops. The Trees took a part, which is why they drip sap when cut, but they were blessed with fruits and flowers. Women took a part, which is why they bleed every month, but they were blessed with the power to give birth. And Water took a part, which is why it can get dirty, but it was blessed with the power to wash away dirt and make things pure.

Now you know. See you next week!
