Last week I was in paradise; now I’m thrown back to reality! That’s exactly what it feels like moving back to the in-laws’ after spending time with my parents. I guess it’s the same for most married women. At your parents’ house, life feels like a holiday: no work, royal treatment, getting to yell at your parents without consequences (bad manners), eating all your childhood favourites, wearing whatever you want—ah, that freedom just hits differently! But coming back home is inevitable. And if it’s a joint family, the level of “adjustment” required is… well, IYKYK! One of the things I enjoyed most while at Kabbe was solving the Rubik’s Cube. I actually learned to solve it by watching a YouTube tutorial the day before my wedding—I remember the day so clearly. I was not excited about the wedding next day but solving this! The crocheting season is officially over. Suddenly, now that I’m back home, I don’t find the time for such 'not-so-productive' (?!) activities. B...

Yay! This week we are in Kabbe, at my parents’ house. Being in Kabbe is always fun because we get to meet and interact with so many people. Our home in Hosalli, on the other hand, is quite isolated; there are no houses within almost a kilometre, and we rarely visit the few neighbours nearby. But here in Kabbe, there are plenty of people around. When I was in college, I was an introvert. I used to hate seeing people’s faces and would rarely step out of my room. But now, being married, having a child, and living in an isolated place, I actually crave social gatherings. I love talking to people and being around them. Have I become an extrovert now? Maybe it’s the age, maybe it’s the situation… or perhaps a bit of both. We visited the Varadeshwara Temple, which is located in the heart of Kabbe. It’s just a short walk of about half a kilometre from my parents’ house, along sugarcane and paddy fields. Dhruva was, as always, busy rubbing off the rangoli, his all-time favo...

Do you read my weekly notes regularly? I know some of you do. Then you might have noticed that I usually write only about happy things. Does that mean I’m always happy? That sadness doesn’t visit me? Of course not. There are days when I feel low, frustrated, and disappointed. The beginning of this week was one such phase. The only reason I don’t note those moments is because I don’t want to recall them later. I had a fight at home with family—like in every household, reason is irrelevant (in fact I see it very silly now when I look back). Thankfully, I got over it soon, all because of Sujay <3 (that’s being a partner). What do you do when you’re sad? You cry. You yell at everything. You get irritated for no reason. You share it with that one go-to person. Or you keep it inside until it bursts out someday. Somehow, we all make sure it eventually gets out of us. When I’m sad, I do all of these. Interestingly, I also do double the work I normally do. I work restlessly; I overwo...

This week begun with meeting the famous environmentalist and writer of Karnataka ‘Mr.Shivananda Kalave’, who has done a tremendous work in the area of saving forests and rivers of central western ghats. I wanted to discuss few things with respect to our NGO’s work. Immersing in his stories and experiences, I was lost in time. We sat for three hours, continuously talking about random things, from nature to agriculture, from art and history to science, from religious issues to politics. He is a treasure of knowledge. Always a pleasure to meet him. The book I got as gift from sir, It’s a collection of his experiences on teaching young children I assume this week was mostly a student-teacher meet up week. First it was Kalave sir and then Dr.Jagadeesh, retired dean of Forestry College Sirsi, one of our well-wishers, who keeps us encouraged on even the tiniest of our achievements. He had built a new house in Sirsi, and had invited us for the warming ceremony. Me and Sujay wen...
